I picked up a free water testing kit from Home Depot in Clarksville, TN with the assumption that they were going to test a sample of the water after I mailed it in to them.  The only catch was that I would have to complete a survey and receive a $20 Home Depot gift card.

They tested the water sample and told me that they only tested for water hardness and needed in to my home to complete the test and depending on the results, they may suggest treatments that would help with the problem.

The lady on the phone told me that she was with Environmental Water Testing (which sounded official) and that my water was full of hardness and minerals. She then stated that they were interested in completing a full test because of the levels.  I then asked her if anyone was going to try and sell me anything because if so I was not interested.  She told me nobody was going to try and sell me anything and that it is just a test and survey.  I was also asked to make sure my wife was present for the test.

I then agreed to make an appointment to have a water specialist come test my water yesterday (5/17/2017).  Upon the specialists arrival I let him in under the pretenses that he was just doing a water contamination test.  That was not the case as he proceeded.

I quickly realize that he was a salesman trying to sell me a RainSoft water treatment system.  I kept quiet and let him proceed through his presentation to find out what was wrong wit my water.  The only answers I got was that my water was very hard and full of chlorine.  He was very persuasive and roped my wife in by telling her that she might as well be giving poison to my children and animals.  So she wanted me to buy the system. So we agreed to the install and purchase.

The next day the wife and I realized that we had made a big mistake in financing this system.  The salesman said that you cannot find a system like this anywhere else.  Which was a lie because I found comparable items at Lowes for 1/3 of the price.  Also the hefty price of $7,200 at 17.99% is quite steep.  I could buy and install approximately 6 full systems for that ending price after financing.

The cancellation policy is horrible.  I mean, you do get 3 business days to cancel the item but you must either mail, deliver in person and/or send a "telegram" with a copy of the cancellation form.  Can you even still send a telegram?

I personally sent a copy in the mail and then went to their website and got their fax number and faxed it to them as well as e-mailed it to the e-mail address on the website.  They accepted it.  I know they did because the salesman called my wife's number on the form (not mine) and tried to talk her in to keeping they system.  He also tried to guilt her into keeping the system and finally when he felt that he was unable to sway her, he became angry and told her that "she will regret this" and wanted his soap back and then hung up on her.

I will never do business with this company again.  It's a shame that Home Depot uses and supports this company.  I guess I will also just have to shop at Lowes only from now on.

Misleading customers to gain access to your home for sales purposes by telling the customer that there is no sales involved, just a water test.  Do not agree to do this test.
