Car Stereo Installation - 1997 Ford Explorer With Premium Sound

This is my first segment on car stereo installation. This one is on a 1997 Ford Explorer with premium sound.  The same principles apply for non premium sound, only the wiring harness is different.  And these are the steps on how to properly do it.  I will provide a video and pictures along with a step by step walk through. Step 1: - Buy a wiring harnesses for the 1997 Ford Explorer. (Must have the premium sound connector if applicable) - Buy a dash kit specific to the vehicle. (Break off the two screw tabs on the top, this kit snaps in place) - Connect the wires from the new CD player to the new wiring harness to see if it works. Using electrical tape, twist connectors, crimp connectors, or the dual wire screws sets (i use those).

Step 2: - Remove the factory radio (there are three ways) - Buy a 2 prong Ford radio removal kit (cheap) and they look like a "U" and pull out sideways to remove the radio (same for the coat hangers) - Or use 2 wire coat hangers (for use instead of the removal kit) - Or remove 2 bolts (7mm) from underneath the radio but above the heater controls.  Pull on the plastic  bezel until it unsnaps. Then use your fingers to push in the metal retaining clamps that holds the radio to the bezel.  Remove the radio. (I am not responsible for damage if you cause it)
Step 3: - Plug the harness in to the car and then the CD player. - To test if it works - Unplug the harness from the CD player. Step 4: - Place the metal sleeve from the CD player into the dash kit. - Bend the prongs on the metal sleeve to ensure a tight fit with no wiggle room. Step 5: - Plug the wiring harness in to the new CD player. - Plug in the antenna (use an antenna adapter if needed, depending on your new radio) - Turn on your radio to ensure it works. - Push your CD player into the sleeve until it clicks. Step 6: - Place the dash kits bezel around the CD player until it snaps in place. - Your done! The overall procedure should take between 30 - 60 minutes.  Good luck and if you have questions, ask.
